COVID-19: Education Student Home Working

Posted by Ross Manthorp on 17 March 2020

As many schools, colleges and universities across the world are closing their doors to protect staff and pupils from COVID-19, we want to help educational institutions by making it easier for students to learn from home during this period.

From now until the 30th June 2020, every GameMaker Studio 2 Education licence has been extended so it will temporarily be able to support five sessions. What this means, is that for every single Education seat licence your school has purchased, you can provide the login details to five of your students and they will be able to simultaneously use GameMaker Studio 2 on their own devices at home. This extension will also apply to new licences purchased during this time frame.

FAQs

Here is a list of FAQs. If you have any other questions, please contact our Support Team at https://accounts.yoyogames.com/contact-us

What do I need to do to change the licences?

This change has been made to your Education seat licences and automatically applies to them so long as they are live. We will review the situation in early June to see if we need to extend this for longer and notify you well in advance of reverting.

How do I create and allocate logins for students?

Using your Education account details, login to your YoYo Account and go to: https://accounts.yoyogames.com/seats, click “Create a new seat”. Create an anonymous username, select 1 seat and provide a password. This username and password combination can now be provided to five students.

How do the Students Download GameMaker?

We have added download links for Windows and Mac versions of GameMaker Studio 2 to our Education website page: https://www.yoyogames.com/education.

Can students see each other’s work?

No, the projects they create are accessed only by the local installation of GameMaker.

How do I take back control of my licences when this is all over?

You can see the sessions associated with your licences at: https://accounts.yoyogames.com/profile/sessions and you can use this to revoke those not being used at school.

What can the students do when they are learning at home?

If you’ve not already done so, please sign-up to receive our Educator News, and we will provide you with ideas for engaging your pupils over this time.
