Cross-Platform Games Development Environment Now Easily Accessible to 45 Million Steam Users

YoYo Games and Valve Software announce a partnership to make the GameMaker: Studio family of products easily available to more than 45 million users of Steam with today’s launch of the Steam Software Store. GameMaker: Studio is YoYo Games’ fast and easy to use cross-platform games development environment that allows users to create games in a single code base and then export with a single button click and run them natively on multiple formats including Steam, HTML5, Facebook, Android, iOS, Windows and OS X. With today’s Steam Software Store launch, users will be able to download GameMaker: Studio, immediately begin creating games with a free version and purchase packages that unlock features, functionality and additional export options.

GameMaker: Studio integrates with Steam Workshop allowing developers to publish games onto the platform for huge exposure and recognition potential within the Steam community, first on Workshop and then on Greenlight.

“Our community has been asking for us to expand the creative possibilities within Steam and we’ve done that today with the availability of the Steam Software Store and GameMaker: Studio,” said Mark Richardson at Valve. “Now that we’ve provided unprecedented access to and support of the best technology, we hope to soon see a huge surge of great content published to our community and submitted to Steam Workshop and Greenlight.”

“GameMaker: Studio was chosen as a game development application for the Steam Software Store launch because of its unparalleled ease of use, cross-platform exporting and deep functionality,” said Sandy Duncan, chief executive officer at YoYo Games. “Being chosen as a launch day partner for the Steam Software Store provides us with the opportunity to generate epic awareness for GameMaker: Studio with a large and passionate games community.”

Steam users can get started creating games with a free version of GameMaker: Studio and then easily upgrade to GameMaker: Studio STANDARD offered at $49 or unlock the full power of GameMaker: Studio with GameMaker: Studio PROFESSIONAL for $99 (all three of these versions include Steam, OS X and Windows exports). Additional exports are sold separately by platform: GameMaker: Studio HTML5 is $99, GameMaker: Studio iOS is $199 and GameMaker: Studio ANDROID is $199. GameMaker: Studio MASTER COLLECTION includes all exports for $499. A 10 percent discount on all products will be available in the first week of sale on Steam.

GameMaker: Studio takes advantage of Steamworks features like easy installation, automatic updating and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space so files can travel with you.
