V9+ - Naruto: Ninja Way Review
By Cabal8616 on 19 September 2007

Pros: Great gameplay, great graphics, and alot of great Naruto action

Cons: The MIDI music can sometimes get repetitive and annoying, and the controls take some getting used to

One of the best Naruto fangames I've seen yet

Well, the game isn't quite complete but it's definetly great so far. It has some great gameplay, and characters all seem to be unique. They also each have their own unique moves- Making it a very nice fighting game. Aswell as this, you're actually USING the attacks- Not just pressing a series of buttons and then watching some cinematic scene.

The graphics are also an upside- For 2D sprites, they're certainly top notch. And the effects are often very nice too- Such as Sasuke's Chidori. It's very satisfying to charge up the Chidori, fly towards your opponent, then send them flying. Which is another nice graphical aspect- The camera actually moves based on both the players, not just one. So it doesn't use some poor split-screen style of 2 player action.

It's also nice to hear alot of actual voices from the anime. It makes it very much like a commercial-style game. Aswell, there's other nice sounds such as the "chirping" sound from Sasuke's Chidori, dogs barking with Kakashi's dog summoning, and many other things.

However, the only reason why the sound isn't 6 stars, is because the .midi format music can get annoying sometimes- Especially in the grassland stage. It would be nice to hear the actual music, or atleast some better .midi's. The music also sadly tends to get very repetitive.

Also, the controls are often hard to get used to- Though, once you get used to them, then the game becomes a lot of fun.

Small cons aside, it's definetly one of the best Naruto fangames out there, even though it's incomplete. Overall, I give it a 5 stars, and will probably give it a 6 stars when it's done.

Thanks for the great review!

I'm actually still on the hunt for better midi music. However, finding decent Naruto midi music has been pretty unsuccessful so far...

And as for the controls, they will be customizable in the next version. And so, you will be able to choose any key you want for each action.
