Hang On 3D - AngeL 2 Review

Pros: Bug fixes on previous version Care and pride taken in presentation Smooth GFX and no tearing/clipping issues
Cons: File is beginning to get large. Load time is a little excessive.
Hang on! It keeps getting better.
Is there a way for users to remove older versions of their game from their sites? I hope so, because it would be a shame if when someone downloaded this, they didnt get the latest version.
This game gets better everytime a new version is released. This is due to 2 reasons... 1. The programmer listens to others opinions & 2. He has a great demonstrated skill with GM.
The latest version sorts out some of the issues of the previous game....theres are nice shake effect of the bike when you hit the sides of the road, that is just as proffessional looking as the original Hang On.
There are a few points I would like to ask:
1. Are your GFX all preloaded into GM as .BMP....that would certainly explain the large file size. If they are you should save em as JPG with a little compression and watch your filesize drop away.
2. The side of the road, is this achieved via sprites? If so the illusion of speed could be generated in the same way with simply realitime rendering the side of the road as a series of rectangles and then just changing the colour of them from red to white....you will also probably notice a performance increase...
3. The Sprites as they leave the screen, seem to bunch up in the corners for a few seconds before disapearing...may you should either destroy the object quicker or scroll them off the visible screen and destroy them there.
These few issues aside, this is one of my favourites here at the moment and Im looking forward to the next version.
Regards,
Tim.
