Pros: -New twist on the Sonic look.
Cons: -Slow gameplay. -Lack of sound?. -No plot. -Confusing options screen.
Sonic Goes Paper
Paper Sonic attempts to recreate the classic blue speedster with a new twist--paper. Everything looks more cartoony 2-dimentional, giving it a more "homemade" feel. However, while this game succeeds in adapting a new look into Sonic's world, it fails to recreate the fun and fast-pased gameplay that we all love. And...the breakdown:
Graphics:
The new graphical twist gives the usual slick and shiny Sonic game a new look. Most everything looks cartoonish in the same, lighthearted way, except for the coins. They for some reason look like the originals, which does not fit the game at all. Personally the slick and cool nature of the original sonic games added to the whole Sonic experience; nevertheless, if its going to be cartoonish, make it ALL cartoonish, even the coins.
**** 4/6
Sound:
For some reason, I only had music and sound in the title screen. If indeed there is no sound yet, it should be a priority as a soundless Sonic game would be mediocre at best.
* 1/6
Gameplay:
This is where Paper Sonic fails to deliver. While Sonic can do all of the jumps, rolls, and dashes, when doing them it just doesn't feel like Sonic. Sonic games have a particular attribute that makes them fun--speed. In this game you move very slowly, which defeats the purpose of playing as Sonic the Hedgehog. Everything must be faster; jumping , running, rolling, and the speed bumps should have you whizzing through the air. Also, when using speed boosters, too often there is an enemy standing close by, wait for you to hit it. This makes using speed boosters risky, which is definately not something you want!
** 2/6
Story:
No story yet. There doesn't need to be some elaborate fairytale, but some sort of plot would be nice.
* 1/6
Interface:
The menu is pretty confusing. When in options, I seemed to change things accidentally (maybe the sound?), and when pressing the spacebar, the screen shrunk and became quite stange, These little details or glitches should be worked on. Besides that, the controls for Sonic are easy and just like the original.
** 2/6
Overall:
Turning Sonic's world into paper is a nice twist on a classic game, however the gameplay is not nearly as fun as it should be or could be. Everything should be faster and less dangerous. When you hit an enemy from the side while in a ball, it should die, not hurt you!
Keep working on this. It has a lot of potential but many things need attention.
** 2/6

As for the speed, in our current version beyond the demo, we already increased the speed. sonic accelerates much faster, and we're soon going to be tweaking things such as max speed, and definitely the jumping speed. it's hard to get the exact same feel as the classic sonic, but we're getting closer and closer in every version.

yea I've also heard of some people having sound problems rarely. iv heard of two other cases where there was no sound, but it was solved by simply closing the game and reopening. it has happened to me only one time out of the hundreds of times iv opened it, so its really not a big issue. theres nothing in the code that would prevent the sound from playing...

The speed is currently being worked on, it will be much faster in the next version, for that, we are sorry.
I'll work on any glitches in the menu, I changed a few things last minute that may have interfered with it, that will be sorted.
Sound. This is interesting, some people say they have sound and others say they don't, I'll see what I can do about that but there is no reason for the problem.
As for story, we may have a basic plot, but nothing major has been decided upon yet
Thank you.
