Pros: Original, funny, big world, many different characters
Cons: Irritating fighting engine, sprites and animations sometimes looked rather funny, no helpfile while playing
Good job, may Cheese be with you!
In this game you guide the main character through some adventures, helping his friend, the dwarf, and looking for lost objects. There are some enemies abroad. In combat, you control both your character and his friend.
The fighting happens in steps. First you attack, then the enemy, then you again... It isn't real time, so you can't control much of it. You pick a weapon and a target, the rest is up to the computer. He decides whether you hit and whether the enemy misses you. You can influence this with your garment and such, but I didn't like the system.
The graphics look nice, though a little bit clumsy. They give the game a humoristic feeling. So do the conversations and the surroundings ("Cheese" is a God? My guess is the creator was Dutch :) ). The MIDI-music adds to that.
Lots of text interferes with the gameplay. I know this is a habit in RPG's, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It's good that you have to activate most conversations and info-texts manually, so they are not repeated if you accidentally walk into someone or something.
The story is very important in a small RPG like this and I think it was a good one here. I haven't finished the entire game yet, but so far I found the story original and funny. The characters have depth and the world has history (a graveyard...).
The interface is easy, you walk, act (Z), stop acting (X) and shop (C). You can also enable and disable "running" with C. These actions are discribed in the help-file, but this file is not accessable in the game, so make sure you know them before you start.
So, it's a good, original game, but I didn't like the fighting. It was slow and uncontrollable...
