Mega Block Man Review
By MediYama on 26 August 2009

Pros: Level design is good; Reminiscent of great N64 games;

Cons: Interface is ugly; Graphics look amateurish; It's all been done already;

Fun, but bad

Before I started playing this game, I really didn't understand how such an amateury-looking game could get so much hype on a game site as big as this one. I thought giving the game a try wouldn't hurt, and now that I'm done playing, I still don't get the hype.

First off, this game is horribly presented. I was greeted with a barebone interface that takes a minute to create in Game Maker. When I started playing, I got to take a better look at the game itself. It didn't make up for the bad interface. Bad color choices, uninspired characters and enemies created the feeling as if everything was designed by a programmer - in fact, it probably was.

I kept playing, because you can't judge a book by its cover, right? And frankly, the levels are designed in a way that the game is fun and slightly challenging to play; once you get over the fact that you've seen it all before, there is some enjoyment to find here. The levels reminded me specifically of Super Mario 64, and it made me slightly happy.

This feeling of nostalgia is accompanied by the music in the game; I recognized most of them from N64 games, and as I was hopping around the grasslands on a tune that sounded like I was fighting King K. Rool, it added to my enjoyment that much more.

So there you go. The game was fun to play but there is really some work to be done before it qualifies as a proper one.
