Adventure Platformer1 Review
By snowyowl on 08 July 2009

Pros: -Nice graphics -Good sound effects

Cons: -No ending -A bit glitchy

3 stars, but the sequel will be better

Graphics: 4 stars. Not perfect, but they look nice. Blue electric effects and everything; you can tell a certain amount of effort has been put into the graphics here. And I like the background effects. The graphics all work together and give the game an electric feel, like you're stuck in a computer or something like that.
Sound: 4 stars. I'm referring here to the ambient noises, a sort of gentle soothing hum which nicely complements the electrical style of the graphics. PLus a few electric sound effects. Most games don't have much work on the sounds (if any at all), so this is another plus.
Gameplay: 2 stars. It's basically just a run-and-jump platformer. I'm not giving you 1 star, because I like the walls, and the introduction of new objects (learning curve), but it's a close thing.
Story: 1 star. Frankly, this didn't live up to my expectations. I'm in the habit of giving 2 or even 3 stars to games which don't have a story because they don't need one, but here it was sorely missed. Calling it "Adventure Platformer", then briefly introducing the "Voice" around level 10 made me expect some manner of story here. When it didn't turn up, I felt cheated.
Interface: 1 star. Granted, platform interfaces are the hardest to make properly, but you shouldn't have bitten off more than you could chew. The character keeps getting stuck in the walls or the ceiling, and can also go out of the room. He doesn't die if he does so either; you have to press R.
Overall: Nice to look at and listen to as well as moderately fun to play, this game was full of promise for the first few levels. But it turned out to be far too short, and lacking an ending too (the game just closes down after the final level, with no warning). That was a real shame, bacause I feel this game has a lot of potential; I felt myself wondering "Who is the main character? Why is he in this blue electrical arena? Who is the Voice? And why must he escape from wherever he is?".
This game has potential, more than a lot of apparently similar games, but it doesn't come anywhere near fulfilling that potential. If you ever make a sequel, it is bound to be much better than this game. As it is, it's worth a look.

Thank you for your review! it gave me a heart warming smile to read it. I would like to point out it is a demo so sorry if you liked playing it and it stopped at level 10! I appreciate your concern on the graphics and sound quality, these took me a day to design and than finish. Your review was greatly appreciated and I hope you enjoy the full version of Adventure Platformer, i'll make sure i put a story line in it.
Alex Mason.
