Xplode Review
By Yal on 08 May 2009

Pros: Effects

Cons: No real big ones

Nice brain cleaner after a french lesson

Ah, a game without attention. I like to review them more than I like to review games with attention, mostly becuse I don't feel like reviewing a game that has 27 reviews already (and 400 pages of comments). I have almost never played Yoyo's top games, I stick with the indie, not-top-ten ones (like Fireball for example). Anyway, now I tried Xplode on request by its maker. This is what I found out on three plays:

Graphics: 4 / 5
The graphics match the game. Though, the square and circular shapes felt a bit unispired... they could be more "twisted" to make the game even more weird and brain-cleaning. The graphical effects, though, were pure awesomeness in the style of NAL's, even.

Sound: 4 / 5
Matches the game a lot. But also is the biggest reason to the 3Mb file size. Also I deduct a few points from the perfectness because of the irreguliarty of the sound effects, that seemed to come and go. That confused me, and having the player thinking about sound effects in the middle of a gunfight is not a good thing. ^_^

Gameplay: 4 / 5
Almost spot-less, but having to click fericously made my right hand ache pretty soon. I guess a seasoned FPS player would survive better, though.

Story: 0 / 5
The story is a lie.

Interface: 4 / 5
I didn't understand that one should keep pressing space to move on trough the screens after the first one, and the mouse control manic clicking was a bit achy, and I didn't know which bar was ammo and which was health, but other than that: SPOT-LESS.

Overall Rating: 4 / 5
Play this. Stop reading at once.

Thank you for reviewing my game and for the advice, I'll try to get around to implementing all the stuff you suggested.
