Johnny's Nightmare Review
By Wombat on
25 March 2009
Pros: Keeps the original Johnny flavor, while making it more accessible
Cons: Quite confusing at times
Great homage to the Johnny series
The original Johnny series by Mr. Kubus are some of the most notorious Game Maker games you are bound to find. They exist at the fringes of civilized platforming. Many have never played them, a) because Kubus does not advertise his work very much and b) because many have run away after glancing at the screenshots. However, tapeworm is able to take his unique, no-bs, staight-to-the-point spriting style and give the Johnny games a makeover, as well as make the gameplay a bit easier for those that don't have eight hours a day to spend trying to get past a couple notoriously difficult monsters. However, he stays true to the roots and keeps Johnny's nose unmasked (and you actually end up having to use it to make some of the jumps), as well as keeping the trademark unlimited, untimed laser-firing ability that has also become iconic of the Johnny games. Overall, great work as always from tapeworm.
