Forest Temple Review
By GmMkr on 27 February 2009

Pros: Very smooth gameplay, calming music, very good programming

Cons: Artwork and sounds unoriginal, graphics could be better

Great but could be better

Since this is your first game, I'm going to give you in a sense, two reviews.

One will be as a first game and it contains the rating I will give you.

The other review will be as if I were rating a game with more expectation. This one will be just so you can think of what to improve on and the score will not count.

Alright.

First Game Review:

Graphics: Everything matched nicely. The monster sprites were well chosen along with the characters. The platform sprites gave the game a nice feel. Could have added more variety in the sprites.
4/5

Sound: Well the music was very calming and it fit the whole scenery of the game. Something that I could listen to throughout the game. Some people can't though and that's why I think that every game should have a mute button.
4/5

Gameplay: Very smooth. I'm amazed at how smooth it is for a first. The collisions were perfect and the gravity was very nice. 5/5

Story: Not too clear. The story should be cleared up at the beginning. It should at least give you an intro. 2/5

Interface: Very simple controls. Very effective. Not perfect though. 4/5

Overall: For a beginners game, this was AWESOME! 4/5

Hardcore Review:

Graphics: Need major improvement. Needs originality. I know most of those sprites from other games. I like the choice of sprites but originality is always better. Also, there are some animations that you should fill in such as climbing animations. Still, since they all match and aren't completely random. 2/5

Sound: Not many, all I remember is music. Very calming music but I'm sure it's not original. Again, originality is always best. If I may suggest a music program you should get FL Studio. The free version is good for making songs in one day. Needs more, a lot more. 1/5

Gameplay: I stick by what I said as to how smooth this engine runs. I'm amazed that this is your first platformer. Except for a minor bug here and there such as when you're on a ladder you're automatically falling. Still, that's a very small bug and can be easily fixed. 4/5.

Story: I'm so lost with the story. That's not good. Needs a clearer story. 1/5

Interface: Extremely easy to understand. Very effective. I still feel like there could have been much more. 3/5

Overall: 1.5/5

Overview: For a first timer, it's incredible. However, if you wish to make this GREAT then you should follow the hardcore review. If you ever need any help or advice (I'm not an amazing programmer but I can help) just send me a PM and I'll be happy to. Or better yet, PM me asking for my e-mail. I rarely come on here anymore.

Thanks a tonne for this review. I'll do my best to make my future games based around what you said in the hardcore review =)
