Capsule Review
By Pallas on 03 January 2009

Pros: Original teleport-back idea, original menu, the speed after bouncing on a spring depends on the incoming speed, variation in level design, water

Cons: Graphics are too simple, very soft music that stops after a while (?) with sound effects that are relatively loud compared to the music, 'standard' platform, starts with the help file, menu is confusing

Capsule review

Let's start with the Pros, which consist of some funny ideas that make the gameplay a lot better. I really liked the feature that brings the player back to the initial position by pressing 'R'. This results in some cool designed levels.
The menu is also funny, because it is (partly) controlled by moving the character to a position. A Con is that is is not done consequently.
The spring that makes the character fly into the air faster when the incoming speed was higher, was a nice detail. Keep adding those things into your games. The same goes for the addition of water which made the game less monotonous.
The level design was remarkably good; it gave enough variation.

Allow me to be clear; there are enough improvements to be made to Capsule. The graphics are very simple and there are no effects at all. Some particles would really improve the graphical aspect of the game. Besides, you should try to shade your sprites and make them more detailed. They'll get a lot nicer.
The sound wasn't quite the strongest part of the game. The music was very soft compared to the (loud) sound effects, which weren't of a high quality. This should be an important point to improve.
The goal of the game is fairly straightforward: pick up all objects to let a door appear which is the end of the level. Other platform elements such as spikes, ropes and bullets are featured too. Without something really innovating, Capsule becomes a standard platform. Too bad, because it makes the game not so original.
I found a minor glitch: the character doesn't bounce sometimes when falling on a spring.
As a last point, most players do not appreciate reading quite some text (although I see that you've tried to keep it short) before they've actually played the game. A player first want to see what the game is like and whether it is worth time to play. You should first show something exciting to avoid players to quit your game too fast.

Conclusion:
Capsule is a decent platform game with some nice touches. There's room for a lot of improvements, which I'd like to see in games by Penthia Pertion in the future. Keep up the good work, I'd say!

Well, I had but then I thought "what if someone needs to reset all the object?". My next platformer game was going to have shift reset all objects but the player [resulting in some cool levels] but I've decided not to finish it. Instead, myself and people from Para Pro are working on Clay 2.

That's a nice decision, though I was already using it to complete the levels. :) I guess you hadn't thought about it as a gameplay element, but just as a restart option? :P

About the "R" thing teleporting you back, I've decided to incorportate that into my next platform game, but I'm going to add even more, which will have to be used in order to win. (it's going to be a puzzle platformer)

For the portal I'm thinking of making a stream of particles that go from the character to the position you are portaling to so you know where the character is. Also, I wanted most of the graphics to be transparent and be simple, in hopes it would be more unique. I know about the spring glitch, and would like to fix it up. Also, for the "R" thing, I decided that sometimes someone may do something they wished they did not, and so I made "E" reset everything. In all, it's supposed to run fast.
