Defend Review

Pros: Excellent gameplay, good controls, good graphics
Cons: I don't really know why I'm shooting at all the random blimps and UFOs. Also it can get a little crowded.
SoulRed Review of Defend
First impressions always last the longest. The fact that there was no title screen certainly wasn't appealing; instead there was a tutorial page which was still decent-looking, but I would have preferred an actual title. Next, I get into the game. The graphics are very nice; HUD is good, and not in the way like many games out there. The sounds were very nice as well, and for a shooting game like this, that isn't seen very often.
The gameplay was the most impressive thing about the game. I'm not yet entirely sure why, but the gameplay felt so smooth and comfortable, that I was having a good time from the first destroyed enemy. The only gripe I might have about the gameplay was that it eventually gets a little overcrowded; enemies flood the airspace and the bombs are flung by the dozens. Most of the bombs miss your turret, but the ones that will hit your turret can only be evaded by shooting at them. When the screen filled up like I mentioned, it was a little too difficult to keep up.
Interface was also good. The target and the line were really a plus; they sort of counteract the game's difficulty. While I'm on the subject of the target, the special attack (laser beam) was also a great idea and well-implemented.
In the "cons" list I typed that I don't really know why I'm shooting at all the blimps and UFO's. While I still hold this true, it didn't really take away from the overall experience. Having a story would have been a positive thing, as opposed to not having one being a negative thing.
Overall: 5/6 stars. Congrats on your great game, Jak.
