Pros: Addicting-arcade-minigame gameplay; cool "natural"-looking graphics
Cons: Enemies overwhelm you quite easily; holding down left-click to shoot is just annoying
Eternogames Review: Spinnekop
Spinnekop by JKun is a great example of an AddictingGames-style game. It has simple controls, but still enough gameplay and challenge to warrant a second play and beyond.
Graphics: The bright, cartoony (?) graphics definitely remind the player of tribal masks and jungle/African themes. However, a little more variation throughout the game, in backgrounds, enemy patterns, and overall polish, could draw in the player much more.
Sound: The simple "poof" sound of an enemy ceasing to exist soon became repetitive and boring. However, the drumbeat background music felt more rhythmic than repetitive; extending the track a bit to include a touch of variety would round out the music nicely.
Gameplay: Good gameplay is the mark of a good game. With a solid engine, a game doesn't need top-notch graphics. The addictiveness of Spinnekop makes up for most of its (minor) flaws. The simple act of pointing and clicking to gain points is not a new idea, but for some reason, that exact idea seems new in every game that uses it; perhaps it's because it's so intuitive. Whatever the reason, the gameplay of Spinnekop is nearly flawless. A few minor suggestions:
-I agree with YoYoJim; the enemies should not continually charge at you. Waves (or at least a period of rest between surges) would enhance the fun factor greatly.
-My finger soon became sore from holding down the left mouse button to fire. I suggest autofire, with maybe a secondary bullet fired by clicking.
Story: Hmm. There's not much to say here, except that this game doesn't especially need a story. A small background story would help.
Interface: As I often say, simpler is better, and that's definitely the case here. The score and lives don't get in the way, and that alone makes a good interface.
Overall, Spinnekop is a great addicting game with a few minor flaws that don't affect the game negatively in any way.
