Lab 14 Review

Pros: Mind-blowing puzzles mixed with satisfying platforming equates to a one-of-a-kind experience.
Cons: Lab 14 would benefit from at least one additional music track to vary the feel of the levels somewhat. Graphics are decent but would make for a stunning final product if they were upgraded.
Lab 14: A must-play for any puzzle/platform fan!
I went into Lab 14 thinking it would be just another platformer, but I liked the promise of riddles and a variation on the standard run-and-jump gameplay. As it turns out, Lab 14 is much more than I expected. The puzzles are well thought out and clever twists await you at every turn. The only real problem with the game is that it's so intriguing and enveloping that before you know it, it's over!
The graphics could use a slight overhaul, but are still pretty decent by PC platformer standards. The same background beat gets a little old after a while, but at least the author chose a catchy, stylish one. A few additional tracks thrown in would have made the game's soundscape that much more interesting, as would a few jumping/landing/death sounds.
A hint system would have been nice, but as stated earlier, even without it the game is over far too soon. Still, there were times that giving up seemed necessary, and a small hint would have been much appreciated.
Overall, one of the best games (GM or not) that I've played in some time, and definitely something I'd pay money for if more levels or a more intricate story was tacked on. Play this now and *do not stop* until you reach the end, it's worth every second.
