DREAMEN Review
By AKH on 20 March 2008

Pros: Excellent Graphics and Interface, Music is Good too, simple Gameplay concept, a form of Multiplayer, convenient things such as F4 to change fullscreen, and high and low quality graphic modes.

Cons: Game can be confusing on first few plays, Lack of Music Variation, basic size 12 Arial font used in some places.

I would have loved to give this a 6/6 for Graphics, most of the time they are professional quality, but there are places where a basic size 12 Arial font is used, and the Graphics are partly the cause of the Gameplay's biggest flaw ...

And what is this flaw? it's first impression. A game's first impression is what makes us choose whether or not to continue playing in a lot of cases ... now, the game's title screen is good, and the music is well-done, appropriate and creates a good atmosphere for the player when they start the game - and that is when things go wrong. My first few plays were awfully confusing even after reading the manual ... it had nothing to do with the controls, or the game's concept, but instead, the mid-air jumping. I knew how to do this, but when I did, all I saw was my character fading away. I was focused on my character alone, and I didn't see him reappear halfway through his jump above me, and as you can imagine, I promptly lost the game in a quick struggle to discover where my character went. >_>

At this point, your average, say 12 years old YoYo gamer would give up, stop playing and rate low. ;)

it's only a minor flaw, so it only brings down the mark of the otherwise-near-flawless gameplay down by 1 star.

On to my story mark. it's a 2, but I won't let it affect the Overall Score as usual, since it doesn't really matter. ;D Looking at the instructions page, I think a good idea would be to add a "Press Esc to Return to the Title Screen" note at the bottom of the screen, and change "Try to don't fall over the bottom of the screen" to "Try not to fall off the bottom of the screen". ;D Otherwise, the English in this game is good.

I like the idea of the 2 Graphic modes, the second one is a great idea for those with poor graphics cards, I think a good addition to the first [more detailed] graphics mode is some sort of glow around the players, so they fit with the style of their surroundings.

As I always say, a variation in music would improve this, as you don't have a lot of sounds right now. :)

I give this an Overall Score of 5/6! :D
