Super Smash Blast v0.2 (SPS 3.2) Review
By CJ Master on
21 February 2008
Pros: Best smash game on site, decent gfx, good ol' gameplay, final smashes.
Cons: Tiny character rooster, only one attack, grainy stages, numerous bugs, and glitchy cammera.
Very Smashing
At the time of writing this is, hands down, the best Super Smash Brothers game on the site. Of course, that's not saying much. On to the review!
Graphics 4/6:
Well, they're obviously ripped, although he chose pretty good sprites. However, the stages are very grainy, and if you go too far you see a background colour instead of background image. Minor, but annoying.
Sound 3/6:
Not much to say. The sounds didn't "wow" me with a fantastic soundtrak, but it did get the job done. It's really average, so thats why it gets an average rating here.
Gameplay 5/6:
If you don't know the game play of Super Smash Bros. then you've been living in a cave. Basically for every attack you land, it raises the opponents %. (that's right, percent, not hp. Although the game does have an hp feature....) The higher your percent, the farther you get blown back by a hit. Fall of a stage to die.
This game has the core gameplay of other smash games, including Final Smashes and other powerups. This is a prime example of a smash game. The best part is the AI. The AI (artificial intelligence) is about as good as Melee.
My biggest complaint is the lack of a character rooster. Add more characters, and you got yourself 6/6, however for now you get a point deducted.
Story 3/6:
Mario wants to kill his younger brother. Ah well, points for realism.
Interface 6/6:
The menu is stolen from Brawl, but it gets the job done. The reason it's rated so high is because of the many options it gives for the game.
Overall Rating 4/6:
Excellent game, highly recommended. A few more tweaks here and there and it'll be perfect.
