Pros: Well-polished, nice new take on platforming

Cons: LONG text intro, slippery movement

Seraphim Flame Review

This is a pretty great game, first off. It's no wonder it got Staff Pick within two days of completion. I died shortly after recovering the first key to the gates of Hell (the black one) and stopped playing after that in frustration, but I think my comments are still valid.

Graphics-
They were good, but not on par with the best. A lot of the terrain was just straight solid color on the inside with no texture (I liked the starry sky, by the way, I would have appreciated getting a chance to play out there a little bit), but there were nice particle effects. I do ask why you decided not to make the 'shooting' attack a particle effect, as that would have looked nicer than a solid pink ball.

Sound-
No complaints here. The sound effects were all good and fitting, the music very appealing.

Gameplay-
It was fun, but a little too slippery for my taste. Pushing boxes should yield some more friction... I was constantly sliding way past the target. It may just be that I should have landed onto the ground, but if that's the case then you should land automatically by dropping onto the ground... we shouldn't have to remember to press 'down' again to land. Another thing was attacking enemies to talk to them; I often had trouble positioning my Z attack so that I could fly through them without going into a trap or out of the room. Maybe if you could assign talking to a separate button (C) it would be easier.

Story-
It was original, but the text intro was just agonizingly long. I think you could easily cut out a lot of the exposition and explanation and we could figure it out ourselves just from playing, or maybe you could just reveal some of those plot points over time through NPCs or later cutscenes. With what you have now paying attention through the entire thing is really, really hard.

Interface-
No complaints here, either. Everything worked great in the display. Not much more to say.

Overall-
This has been a well put-together, entertaining game. Well done.
