THE OTHERS 3! INVERSE Review
By AKH on 18 February 2008

Pros: excellent graphics, well-designed menu, brilliant and appropriate sound effects, and a nice music track.

Cons: only one music track, lack of story and background information, and use of the middle mouse button [I'll explain why that's a Con in the review ;)]

I said I'd review it so here I go! ^__^

This is good, better than your previous 2 games in the Others series :D Speaking of "Others", the game opens with "THE OTHER 3" [no S] was that intentional or a typo?

Anyway, I think what I've found worse with this so far is the lack of story or tutorial - there is no real story to it or a tutorial, both of which would help the game greatly if added - they would give it more depth and draw the player in to it, making them play for longer, it would also help people who haven't played the first 2 games.

... Although I did notice some instructions appeared in game if I put my mouse at the top of the screen - which is quite an awkward positioning - maybe show the player their instructions at the beginning of the game and give them a button to press if they want to read them again? I think that would be a good idea. And maybe have a seperate section for the controls rather than putting them in Settings, since people don't usually look for controls in the settings so they might miss them. I know I did >.< it would also be a good idea to add the controls to the instructions just in case players miss them still.

One thing I found from the instructions is that the game uses <mouse3> - which is the middle mouse button I believe, right? Some people don't have middle mouse buttons, and some don't know what <mouse3> is, so it would be a good idea to change that to another button or key.

But enough negativity - this has excellent graphics, excellent music and an excellent menu as always. This time I found no problem with the graphics - a 6/6 - and the music, although there only appears to be one track, is a nice loop. I would recommend adding more variation though, if this game needs anything it's musical variation - the sound effects are nice though, so it brings sound up to a 4/6 instead of a 3/6.

I gave the gameplay a good mark - 5/6 - because of the interesting change in character [you are the Others now] and most importantly the variety in characters, and customizability of Amethyst, which is a great idea. ;D the variety in characters adds to the story, so despite no actual story being told, this still gets a 3/6 for story. I would give a 6/6 for gameplay if there was just a little more depth, for example, powerups, levels, bosses, that sort of thing. ^__^

Anyway, since a story isn't necessarily required in every game, and since English is your second language after all, I won't let the lower story mark bring the game down. The final overall score is 5/6, the average score given when you use the Interface [5/6], Gameplay [5/6], Sound [4/6] and Graphics [6/6] marks.

To conclude, in my view this is worth 5/6, to increase the mark add more gameplay depth [e.g. levels, bosses and powerups], more of a story and tutorial, and more than one music track [e.g. seperate music tracks for the menu and the main game].
