YoYo Games announces that GameMaker: Studio, its powerful cross-platform games creation environment now supports publishing to Linux with today’s general availability of its Ubuntu Export. With GameMaker: Studio’s Ubuntu Export, developers can export their newly-created and pre-existing games as an Ubuntu Software Center-ready application from a single code base and at the touch of a button.

This is the first time GameMaker has supported Linux publishing and it couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Sandy Duncan, chief executive officer at YoYo Games. “The Ubuntu Software Center provides a new marketplace to distribute and monetize games, a substantial opportunity for our development community.

GameMaker: Studio has been developed with usability and efficiency at its core, allowing developers to create games in a single code base and then export and publish them to run natively across an unprecedented number of distribution platforms including: the Amazon App Store, Chrome, Facebook, Google Play, iTunes, the App Store, the Mac App Store, Steam, the Windows Store, the Windows Phone Store and the Ubuntu Software Center.

GameMaker: Studio combines a powerful, yet simple to use drag-and-drop integrated development environment with a built-in games-oriented scripting language that considerably increases development productivity. GameMaker: Studio caters to entry-level novices and seasoned game development professionals equally.

As the third most popular desktop operating system Ubuntu reaches 20 million users around the globe,” said David Pitkin, Director of Consumer Software at Canonical. “With GameMaker: Studio, it couldn’t be easier to publish games to the Ubuntu Software Center and take advantage of the opportunity to reach a new audience. We can’t wait for all of the awesome GameMaker: Studio games to arrive for Ubuntu in the coming weeks and months.

GameMaker: Studio Ubuntu Export can be purchased at www.yoyogames.com and is coming soon to Steam’s Software Store via www.steampowered.com for $99 U.S.

The Ubuntu Export is free for existing and future purchasers of GameMaker: Studio MASTER COLLECTION. GameMaker: Studio PROFESSIONAL and the Ubuntu Export module are required for publishing to the Ubuntu Software Center.
