Boing! :) Kudos to it being your first game. If you don't mind, I would like to give you a few tips. I would use the "Set Hspeed" command to move because if you stop moving in midair, you stop going up and start to slowly fall. Also, use variables to determine your direction so you will fire in the direction you are facing. I know that this kind of thing comes with time, but those are some tips. Keep improving. If this is a first game, then you are off to a good start.
