    the purpose is to get it back into the solved state, which is whatever you specify it to be. Thats what the colors are for. when you scramble the puzzle it mixes up the colors.

    I think you forgot to do this but you have not specified what these puzzles are and what the aims of them are. Can you please provide some explanation. :)
