I really think you make the objects have masks so they don't get stuck as much.

I'm with cgwalls of the animations, and the sprites look hand-made which is another good thing. along with health, I think there should also be a score that goes up when you manage to shoot an alien, and the ability to duck when you press the down arrow.

dude really great game!lol i love the graphics,gameplay was pretty good to,it was just kinda glitchy,but still very fun and challenging!
