Interesting concept!
A couple problems though - Some of the sprites looked out of order. The low-res backgrounds and character were cool, but the swirly pick-up's didn't fit. The game was also kinda repetitive - perhaps you should add some other creative features to spruce it up. Overall it was a very nice idea though - 4/5.
