3 things:

1: Effort (don't give up just because it's hard)
2: Experience (using GM for a while helps)
3: A LOT of time on your hands. (the longer it takes to make the game, the better it is.)

Using image alpha, blend modes, particles... I lost the gmk, so I can't tell you everything. But if you want to know how to make good graphics; make them yourself, for sure.

I'm glad people like the graphics, because that was my primary concern. (I wanted to gameplay to be good, of course, too)

Not only that, the sounds are mine! You can get them on my WHFF account! I could find a thousand ways to prove you wrong.

BTW, "exe" stands for "executable". (Capable of being executed) Most if not all programs are executables.
