I didn't play very far, but I can say, the first level is very laggy. If may i suggest something that is commonly used for 3D games, but should work in large 2D levels, try taking objects, and have them draw their own sprites at their position. Then, if they're too far outside the view range, don't draw the sprite. For some reason, when an object draws, it forgets to draw its own sprite, which you may already know. So, this might be more efficient. It also may not be. I haven't tested it.
