Hopefully National Geographic isn't encouraging its contributors to eat wildlife anymore. It was a very old magazine I was reading. Probably from the 1970's

That national geographic man was the type of people this tapir tried to keep away! Did he respawn every random(500) steps?

A bit of fun. I read a National Geographic about a wildlife expert who had to live of the land in those areas.
He said tapiers were the best tasting animals. He didn't like eating monkeys as they looked too much like people. The hands especially freaked him out.
